Women Who Inspire: Judy Gadde

I LOVE to celebrate all of the beautiful + strong women in my challenge groups.  So today, I am excited to introduce Judy!  This gorgeous thing has been in at least one of my challenge groups since September and I now consider her a friend.

I believe the most inspiring women out there are the real + everyday women.  So please meet Judy!

Tell us about you!

I am married with 3 fur children, 2 Carolina Dogs/American Dingos (Tank and Saber) and 1 gray tabby cat (Jason). We currently live in Delaware where I have been throughout my diagnostic radiology residency. I will soon be moving to Wisconsin with Jason to further my training in neuroradiology fellowship.

What made you want to join my group last year?

Last academic year was one of my most challenging due to studying for board exams and traveling for fellowship interviews at the same time. This combination led to a lot of eating out and very little exercise. Most people around me did not see this as a problem as I have always been called “skinny”.
However, I quickly realized I was “skinny fat”. During our bi-annual blood work for our employee benefits in April 2014, my cholesterol was high for the first time in my life.  After taking (and passing) my board exams in June, I started my quest towards regaining my health and life. I happened upon a post on Marion’s style blog linking to her fitness blog. While away in Istanbul for a work conference, I completed a short challenge group and started finally decided to take the plunge with 21 Day Fix upon my return to the States in September.

What was the first round of the 21-Day Fix like for you?

21 Day Fix was exactly what I knew I needed – healthy eating habits with daily well-rounded workouts. I quickly realized that I was eating too many carbs, too much fruit, and not enough protein.
I also had to learn what the healthier options were out of each food group. My biggest challenge was giving up sweets and my too frequent lattes. I had the typical withdrawal headache around Day 3 which quickly resolved as my body adjusted to eating whole healthy foods. I loved the workouts as they were a much needed change from my prior spinning, treadmill, elliptical, etc.

Girl…you have a VERY busy work schedule and often have to get up early in the morning to fit your workout in. What makes you get out of bed so many months later and push play?!!

I have tried all combinations of workout times as my schedule has varied greatly – nights, weekends, 15 hour days, etc. This variety gave me the ability to also see what works best for me on those more “normal” days. Our pups already wake us up at 3-4am everyday so I figured why not stay up and get my 30-45 minutes of working out done for the day.
I found that I had more energy throughout the day and felt more accomplished. This allows me to focus on my work and not feeling guilty about not working out. This also allows me to do other things if needed after work.

What has being a part of this Beachbody family added to your life?

The daily assignments to post in the challenge groups give me motivation. The encouragement and accountability posts from other challengers also give me motivation. As I progress further in my fitness journey, I am motivated to be a source of inspiration to myself and to others. The physical energy and confidence I now feel translates into mental energy and confidence both at work and in my personal life.

Lastly, what would you tell anyone who wants to make a change like this but is worried about taking the plunge?

I will say that this journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it! This commitment is more of a mental challenge than physical challenge in my opinion. Once you have mentally committed, nothing can stand in your way. A 30 minute workout is only 2% of your day. Both the nutrition and workouts can be done while traveling. Your current favorite foods may end up being those that you find are the worst for you. After a habit of clean eating, you may find you no longer crave any unhealthy foods. If I can do this with my schedule, so can you! You will never know until you try.
THANK YOU so much Judy!  Keep on keepin’ on girl!!
